What a treat to see a picture of the top of Shelsley, most photographers preferring to concentrate on the action lower down. Seems a bit unkind to post a policeman immediately past the finishing line - a bit inhibiting one would have thought. Basil Davenport's Spider can be seen in the distance, the engine having seized close to the finish line. The competing car is possibly C H Vidal's self-built Vidal?

That's an Alvis chassis, but the body (and headlamps?) aren't standard Alvis.

The comp number is difficult to read but as the photo is numbered between the Gwynne 8 (no. 15) and Joyce in the AC, the results sheets show this to be an 8hp Talbot driven by A.R.Simmins.

A marque expert has stated that this car is definitely not a Talbot. Having looked closer at the blown-up photo, the competition no. on the driver's door looks to be 22 which makes the car the self-build Vidal as suggested by the Guest comment above. The driver was thus C.H. Vidal, his car described as a "Vidal 10hp" of 1488 cc. Please therefore disregard my earlier comment.
