Surely the 1914 Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man. Sir Algernon Lee Guiness driving the car on the first day of the event with the windscreen and offside front wing prepared for the forecast rain. His mechanic was J. Smith. They retired when in second place.

Julian, agreed. So, is it taken at Hillberry? His 'line' at this point is very tight and suggests a light throttle, going easy and preserving the machine. What did he retire for?

Sorry Jim, didn't mean to infer that it wasn't Hillberry, you would know that much better than me. According to Anthony Heal's 'Sunbeam Racing Cars' (highly recommended if you don't have a copy): Algy Lee Guinness retired with a seized universal joint on the thirteenth lap, the day after this photo. There is a photo of the car on the Sunday at the pits with a large funnel to the bolster fuel tank and a tiny funnel attached to a tube behind the seats for oiling the joint.
