According to the official results, the mystery car (No. 27) at Shelsley on 23rd May 1925 was a 1982cc Ansaldo 14/50 driven by R.F. Oates which completed the climb in 58.0s.

Oats' name is often incorrectly spelt with an extra 'e', even in Shelsley programmes, but this is not correct. Having read an article co-written by him, Oats is definitely the correct spelling.
