I think this is the Inter-Varsity climb of 3 March 1923. If so it is the GN of Hugh Eaton with the 200-Mile Race ohc engine (the vertical shaft cam drive is visible on the nearside. He recorded 48.8secs to win his class, beating an ABC (53.9s) and a Hillman (57.9s)

I agree Julian that matches the records I have. I think Aston Clinton was only used by Oxford University for Inter-Varsity events although I could be wrong. The length of the course altered from 750yards in 1921, to 1200yards in 1922 and up to 1400yards in 1923. I not sure if the Inter-Varsity event was held here in 1922 or not. Dancers End hill climb was only 2 miles up the road from Aston Clinton although not used for Inter-Varsity events, not sure why. Perhaps you can enlighten me Julian, you seem to have a good knowledge of Inter-Varsity speed trials? If you have then I have a great many questions for you! Especially the 1932 event on the Eynsham By-pass.

Adrian I don't have particular access to Varsity events and the University Motor Clubs change their personnel every few years so they have not been very helpful (so far). I didn't know about the 1932 event on the Eynsham By-Pass (damn, must look it up), I have just been copying info from the Light Car & Cycle Car on the two 1933 events. If you are interested send me an email on hunt4us@btinternet.com and I'll pass on what information I have.
