This shows the rolling start allowed with the start being "announced" to the man at the top with the watch by the gent in the trilby speaking into the ex-army land line alongside the road. Just like VSCC Madresfield only they used a radio and "3-2-1-Go". But what is the man lying on the ground up to?

I have recently seen the account of the event in The Light Car and Cyclecar and learned that the ACU Western Centre used electrical timing equipment which was borrowed from the Evesham AC. The front wheel of each vehicle broke tapes at the start and finish and so started and stopped the watch.
