This is not a Benz: it was mis-identified in the early days as a Benz, then a Hurtu, but is in fact an English Mechanic (home-build from magazine articles). It was found in a field with a tree growing through it! The Miles Benz is a well-known and very original car owned until recently by the Miles family and was on show in Onward Motors in South Croydon for many years.

It is definitely an English Mechanic, it now belongs to the Dorrington family and was driven in 1928 by R.G. Blake of Mitcham. It did not finish in 1928.
