The Lea-Francis no 30 was driven in the initial stages of the race by R Childe. After being delayed at the start by a jammed starter which had to be replaced, and then by a grease gun neck which had become entangled with the gear gate, Childe overdid things with the result shown above. The car surprisingly suffered only a bent dumb iron, and having been pushed clear, was piloted safely to the finish by co-driver H Pellow.
