It is an A.V. Monocar - produced originally by Ward & Avey Ltd at Teddington till 1923 then renamed to AV Motors Ltd

JWd is right tho I think it may be 1921. Major RC Empson was an enthusiastic and succesful racer of AV Monocars in this period. He raced one called "Whizzbang". Does anyone know more about the gallant Major? Andrew

I am researching AV/Ward & Avey. Do you have any other information or photos? I actually live about 5 minutes from Somerset Road. Did you know "Ward" was George Leopold Holzapfel and "Avey" was Frederick Maxey Holzapfel? Fred died in 30 January 1934, but George Leopold went to the States, had a successful career in oil and died in CALIFORNIA in December of 1978. Andrew

Andrew, I have some information about Empson, but I don't know how to contact you privately. Have you tried a Google search on Reginald Calvert Empson?

I worked at A.V. Motors in Teddington as an apprentice during 1979-82. It was owned by Richard Avey and run in part by his son, Simon. Hindhead Motors was also part of the Avey Group. The monocar was mentioned several times whilst I worked there, I also covered the Monocar very briefley during my college years in conjunction with my appreticeship. Happy days!

George Leopold Holzapfel was my grandfather. I have an orginal Carden Manual from I believe 1914 if your still interested. His mothers name was Ward and kept that name thru WWI while serving in the British Army and changed it back to Holzapfel in the States 1927. Cheers

Frederick Max Avey was my husband's father. His daughter is still alive. I have quite a lot of pictures of the AV Monocar, including one of Frederick accompanied by his wife Emily.
