So is the Nanette Special, (as identified in earlier photos as being owned by Felix Scriven) a Rover? Also is E Poppe any relation to Gunnar Poppe?

No, Nanette comprised a Hooker-Thomas engine in a Rubery Owen chassis built to Scriven's design. It was rather lower slung than the Rover, although they do look quite similar.

In answer to the second question. Yes, Erling was Gunnar's brother (3 brothers, all involved in the motor industry). Sons of Peter August Poppe who emigrated from Norway. Erling was the Poppe of White & Poppe (engines and motorcycles) and Packman & Poppe (motorcycles) anong many other adventures. Also the family were involved with early Rover, Dennis, Sunbeam and others. I am the grandson of Erling (with my 2 Poppe brothers). Andrew Poppe

Hi Andrew - regarding Peter Poppe. Previously published information I have says that Peter was the joint managing director of White & Poppe, does this mean that Erling also worked for White & Poppe or is the information previously published wrong? I have a Rover 16/50 which uses the unusual hemispherical engine originally designed by Peter Poppe in 1918. I would be most interested in any further information you may have of the development of these engines and particularly the racing specials as driven by Erling

Is Erling Poppe related to John H Poppe who married Joan Louise Beers, the artist, in 1922? He was a New York 'automobile executive', apparently.
