Rudolf Caracciola breaking the Sports Car record with a time of 46.8secs on 12 July 1930. In the passenger seat is his friend and later Mercedes-Benz team managger Alfred Neubauer. The 38/250 Mercedes was later excluded from the Tourist Trophy race in August 1930 as it was fitted with the larger than standard 'Elephant' supercharger, but it had run with the instrument fitted in early events including Shelsley Walsh and no-one had worried (or noticed).
