Its a Type 37 Bugatti. The reg plate is somewhat unusually sited.

I think there's a strong possibility that could be a Bugatti?

G M Barnard ( 1 1/2-litre Bugatti).

G M Barnard's 1 1/2-litre Bugatti: do you know the chassis number?

chassis number 37123

Unfortunately Barnard's T37 was running in the same class as Davenport's "Spider" on 5.5.28 so was way out of the awards, Spider being 17 seconds quicker.
