Shortly after this photograph was taken, as Rampon crossed the line to win, disaster befell Coe's Vauxhall, which got into a tail-first slide coming off the banking into the Finishing Straight. The Autocar reported: "(the Vauxhall) swung right round, then somersaulted tail over bonnet at the grass edge of the track in a huge cloud of dust and pieces. By a miracle Coe and his mechanic were practically unhurt".
